Cleo Parker Robinson
This photograph was made during a break in rehearsal of a restaging of Katherine Dunham's "Barrelhouse". Pictured are center, Cleo Parker Robinson, left: Germaul Yusef Barnes, and right: Marceline Freeman. Cleo is a vibrant, generous artist completely committed to the art form of dance and has had great success in promoting humanitarian causes and cultural recognition through the performing arts. The location of this shot is the exterior entrance to the housekeeping quarters, and the rustic nature of the festival's architecture is fully evident. For an interesting comparison of costume and period, check out the following link that shows an old press publicity still of Katherine Dunham in one of her versions of "Barrelhouse", circa 1950. The dance was originally choreographed by Dunham in 1938.
